It was my very last football game of senior year. We played Marcus-Meridan-Cleghorn. Our season hadn't gone very well at all so far. We were winless up to this game. The five of us seniors who played all knew this was our last chance to show our love of the game. We wanted to leave it all out on the field. Show our coaches and our family that we could work hard and give our all one last time for our teammates.
Paul, Chris, Eric, Mike, and I, the five seniors, looked at each other. We didn't have to say a word because we all knew what everyone else was thinking. It was probably something like, "Well its been a fun four years, but lets make this game one of the most memorable nights of our lives!" We knew that night would be the night that we hit harder, ran faster, blocked better, and busted our tails more than we had ever done. All because it would be our last chance to play together as teammates.
We played our hearts out that game. I gave 115% that entire game. I know all the seniors did. Never in my life have I ran faster, jumped higher, or hit harder than I did that game. I played with all my heart and soul that game. I hit so many people that night that I got a minor concussion and couldn't see straight for two days, but I knew that I would regret it if I didn't leave it all out on the field.
I will never forget that night. All the seniors feeling the same way I did. Banged up and bruised. Sore for days and we still lost the game. But not one of us seniors felt like we had lost that game. We all knew how hard we worked that night, and we were proud. Each and every one of us had that feeling of pure satisfaction that night and for the next few days. Nothing could bring us down, and we all knew it.

It’s awesome that all the seniors felt like they had won, even though the game didn’t go as well as you hoped. At least you will have no regrets for trying your best, since you gave it your all.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a success story even though the technical outcome was a failure. You will always know that you tried your best, and nothing could have changed the outcome of the game. This is a real life success story because it very rarely happens like it does in the movies where the underdog comes out on top.

ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to you Andrew. Last year our last game of basketball was the same. It is hard to know it is your last game, but trying your hardest makes it that much better in the end.
ReplyDeleteIt is great that you and your teammates could still go out on the field being positive and come off the field after losing positive. I know a lot of people who couldn't do that.
ReplyDeleteYou gave it your best; a victory to you might not be a victory to others. Give college your best and you won't have any problems.
ReplyDeleteYou may not have won the game, but in the long run you may have developed more important skills, like teamwork or communication. Way to stay positive even when it appears that theres no positive outcomes.
ReplyDeleteWinning doesn't mean winning a game. Winning means giving it your all and that is what you and the other seniors did. Lone Tree never won a single football game for two years after we broke off from the neighboring school, but the players knew they were winners in the schools heart. Your going to do great in college
